  • Who will return: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver will reprise their respective roles in the 9th installment of the Star Wars universe. Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Carrie Fisher, Lupita N’yongo and Gwendoline Christie are also confirmed.

  • New Characters: Veteran actors Benicia Del Toro and Laura Dern star in The Last Jedi as well as Kelly Marie Tran. Del Toro is playing a never before seen character named DJ, who is NOT an aged Ezra Miller as was recently confirmed. Even less is known about who Laura Dern is portraying, the most we’ve heard about her is that she’s a political figure referred to as an “Anti-Leia”. Kelly Marie Tran is playing a resistance technician named Rose, who will be spending most of the movie, side by side with our favorite First Order defector.
  • Plot details: plot details have been kept under wraps very well. Scripts have been leaked but they are almost definitely fake. We do know that Rey will meet Luke, and if the trailer is any clue she may not like what she finds. John Boyega confirmed that Finn will awake from his coma, most likely for a team up with Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron.

  • New Planets and Locations: The Last Jedi will feature two new planes and two returning ones rom The Force Awakens. Canto Bight and Crait are the two new planets. D’Qar and Ach-To are the returning ones. Canto Bight is something of a casino, filled with the richest of the rich in the galaxy. It has been described by director Rian Johnson as “a playground of rich a***oles”. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out on the screen because we’ve never seen something like it in Star Wars before. Crait is the planet shown in the trailer with the red dirt, very little is known about Crait other than that it makes for some very very pretty shots. D’Qar is the home of the resistance base from TFA, and Ach-To is the island that Luke Skywalker lives on. One interesting thing about Ach-To is that we’ve learned there will be a native race on the island, and no the natives are not Ewoks.
  • Carrie Fisher: We were all shocked and saddened by the news of Carrie Fisher’s passing last year. The question of what to do with Leia Organa in future films is still up in the air, but we do know that she finished all her scenes for The Last Jedi before her untimely death. Kathleen Kennedy has said that Episode 9 was going to be centered around Leia, so it will be interesting to see what direction Lucasfilm takes things.
